Love in the Wonderland - Celebration of the 15th Anniversary of BJ-SDC

2020 marks BJ-SDC's 15th anniversary of promoting sustainable development at different levels globally. As a celebration, Love in the Wonderland – A Narrative of Love and Exploration and Practice of Future Living Village Seminar was successfully held at Noble Garden and Hua Dao Eco-Village in Chengdu on June 13th and 14th.    

The seminar was held at a small scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with around 50 guests, including Prof. Zhang Baowei from Architecture School of Central Academy of Fine Arts(CAFA), Prof. Jin Lianying from CAFA Humanities School, Prof. Li Yufeng from CAFA Design School, and Mr.Liu Yipei, President of Polus International College.

The event on June 13th was held at Noble Garden and was moderated by Teresa Chuang, Executive Vice Chair of BJ-SDC. During the event, Prof. Li Yufeng and his team introduced the initial achievement of the research project - A Narrative of Love. It was an international cultural exchange project conducted under the cooperation of BJ-SDC and The Prince’s Foundation, and Prof. Li was invited to undertake the relevant research. Li and his team interpreted love from three perspectives – the thought, thinking and application of love, and he designed a complete tool package absorbing essence from Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, classic works, folk proverbs and Fengshui culture. At the end of the introduction, the team made a conclusion that love of the future is the combination of love of nature and love of culture.

Attendees of the event also shared their understanding on love. Prof. Zhang Baowei believed that love should firstly start from individuals and then influence surroundings around them. Prof. Jin Lianying thought that love should be interpreted in the environment full of love and each of us could be love. BJ-SDC Honorary Chair Christopher Chuang summarized that love was our conscience and the way we treated ourselves and the outside world. It had different meaning to each person.

As 2020 marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of BJ-SDC, all attendees together joined a warm and unforgettable celebration ceremony. Domestic and international friends who were unable to present at the event also sent their blessings through videos. 

After the ceremony, international consultants of BJ-SDC, Simon Jones, Senior Consultant of The Prince’s Foundation and Chime Communication Ltd, and Alwin van der Linde, President of VANDERLINDE Foundation shared their interpretation of love through an online conversation. To them, love was eternal, the toughest while at the same time the softest emotion. Only through love, we could achieve harmony and the real sustainable development. And only by connecting with love and creating with love, could we heal our civilization and rebuild a wonderland for all.

In order to promote further study and practice of A Narrative of Love project, Enlightenment Institute (China), Prolo Farm and Kind Mind Ltd signed strategic cooperation agreement on nature education for enlightenment at the end of the event. 


Amy Yuan, Secretary-General of BJ-SDC moderated the event at Hua Dao Eco-village

The Event on June 14th was held at Hua Dao Eco-village with topic focusing on future living village. This topic is also the key issue promoted by BJ-SDC in 2020, aiming at exploring a new pattern of living community which could benefit the co-existence of human beings and nature, promote cultural inheritance and respond to the rapidly changing environment. 

Alice Wang, Honorary Director of BJ-SDC and Chief Coordinator of Hua Dao Eco-village introduced the origin and development of Hua Dao. The original idea of Hua Dao could date back to Hanwang Action Plan put forward at Hanwang Forum in 2012, which aims to realize sustainable development through 7+1 areas, including government cooperation, civil communication, agriculture, new energy, eco-village, information technology as well as inheritance and innovation of culture. As a practice of the 7+1 action plan, Hua Dao strives to become a demonstration community following the rule of oneness of human and nature and exploring an innovative civilization. In 2020, under the cooperation with Shenzhen Institute of Building Research(IBR), Hua Dao will take further steps to seek the mode of future living village.   


IBR Chairwoman Ye Qing delivered a keynote speech on the topic of future living village

Ye Qing, Chairwoman of IBR and Deputy Director of China Green Building Research has devoted herself to exploring green buildings and eco-cities in China for decades. In her speech, Madame Ye shared her understanding and perception about cities. She believed that a city should be equal to everyone with pleasant, safe, eco-friendly as well as connected environment. And we should develop cities appropriately, leaving space for other lives while building a safe and harmonious environment for all. Based on the thought, Madame Ye together with her team upgraded overall spatial planning for Hua Dao and contributed their wisdom to exploring the mode of future living village.

Tang Jie, Former Vice Mayor of Shenzhen and Professor of School of Economics and Management, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) shared his feelings of visiting Hua Dao and the inspirations which we could gain from ancient saints on building future living village He said that on the way to seek China’s plan for eco-community, Hua Dao was alone, and its commitment was touching. Leaving out the luxury, Hua Dao had been building an orderly and harmonious environment following the rule of oneness of human and nature. And today it had a glorious mission to find out a solution to the global issue we all faced.

Other participants also contributed their wisdom to promoting the development of Hua Dao and future living village, including building rural business centers, planning educational courses and healing courses, as well as focusing on branding, etc. The building of future living village needs professionals from different domains to join in this effort and only through this way, the idea and mode of future living village could be widely spread and encouraging more people to take part in the action to protect our homeland.

In order to provide an opportunity for participants to experience the happiness of future living village, Hua Dao also arranged various experiential activities during the event, including conversation with saints on the philosophy walkway, candlelight concert and eco-handcraft.
